Privacy Policy
Effective October 20, 2026
Hover is private by design. The short version: there are no accounts, and nothing we collect is linked to your identity. We use anonymous analytics to improve the app and Apple's privacy-preserving install attribution to measure our ads. We never read your device's advertising identifier and never ask to track you.
What stays on your device
Everything you enter lives only on your device:
- Your answers, study progress, readiness and practice exam results.
- Your test date and the dates you enter for your knowledge test, recurrent training and aircraft registration.
- Flight log entries and preflight inputs.
- App preferences.
None of this is transmitted to us or to anyone else. Deleting the app deletes this data.
Location
If you allow it, Preflight Check uses your device's location once per visit to compute today's sunrise, sunset and civil twilight for the lighting rule. The location is used on the device for that calculation only. It is never stored and never sent to us or to anyone else. You can decline the permission and enter daylight conditions yourself.
Notifications
If you allow notifications, Hover schedules a few local reminders on your device as your test date approaches and, if you start a free trial, one before it ends. These are created and delivered by your device; nothing is sent to a server.
Anonymous analytics
Hover records a small set of usage events, such as which areas are studied, exams started and finished, paywall views, completed purchases, and your answers to the optional onboarding questions. Each event carries the app version and a random install ID that Hover creates on first launch. The install ID is not tied to your name, Apple ID, email, or any other app, and it resets if you reinstall. Events are stored with our database provider, Supabase, and are used only to understand how the app is used.
Advertising measurement
Hover includes the Meta SDK (FacebookCore) so we can measure installs from our ads on Facebook and Instagram. It sends basic app events, such as app installs, launches, and App Store purchases, to Meta. Hover turns off collection of Apple's advertising identifier (IDFA), so no cross-app identifier is shared. Install attribution runs through Apple's SKAdNetwork, which reports ad results to Meta without identifying you. Meta's handling of this data is covered by Meta's Privacy Policy.
Weather requests
When you use the METAR decoder, the app sends the airport identifier you typed (for example, KSAN) to the NOAA Aviation Weather Center (aviationweather.gov) to fetch the current report. That request is subject to NOAA's own policies, like any visit to a US government website. Hover attaches no identifiers or personal information to it.
Purchases
Purchases and subscriptions are processed by Apple through the App Store. We never see your name, email address, or payment details. The app checks your purchase status through Apple's StoreKit framework on the device.
What we don't do
Hover has no accounts, no ads shown inside the app, and no crash reporters. We do not sell data, and we do not combine Hover data with data from other companies' apps or websites to track you.
Children
Hover is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect data from them.
Changes
If the app's privacy behavior ever changes, we will update this page and its effective date before the change ships.
